Crazy Wedding Photographers

Wedding photographers are, on the whole, a crazy bunch of people. I don’t mean in the terms of having mental issues or being problematic. I am referring more to being obsessive regarding their art, and what they will do for their Bride and Groom. Many will go that extra mile to get the shot.

Wedding Photographers work hard. I’ve heard lines like, ‘they have an easy life’, ‘money for old rope’. It’s just not true. A professional wedding photographer, doesn’t just take photographs, and anyone can do it. Many will have worked through the ranks, have specialised in other genres of photography. A large proportion will have attended training courses, which whatever level they are at, will continue to learn as an ongoing investment in their art. Investing a lot of time, effort and financial outlay to always improve is vital for a wedding photographer. You will find that no matter how good someone thinks your images are, you always strive to improve.

It’s a learning curve, where you have to think fast on your feet, and often be on your feet for 10 or 11 hours, with a very short rest during speeches, and to grab some sustainenance. We are often carrying around very heavy equipment too. There is much planning beforehand, and many conversations, emails, and often a pre wedding shoot with your Bride and Groom, and often going that extra mile for each one of them. It doesn’t end there, I could write a dissertation on the life of a wedding photographer. However, it’s the crazy wedding photographers that I write about here!

There are Wedding Photographers who will stop at nothing in order to nail their shot

Personally, I’ve never done anything extreme whilst capturing wedding images. Although, if the shot requires it, I’m more than happy to get out of my comfort zone. Saying that, I do have my limits! You’ll not find me hanging from a cliff edge, nor will I be up to my waist in muddy water. I always carry an extra set of clothes, just in case I do get wet or muddy.

I have read that some climb trees, hang off a cliff edge, lay in the middle of the road, or even dip into a lake or river. Seeing some of the images from around the world I am sure that you need to be a gymnast. I often climb up to the Belfry to get a downward shot of the Bride and Groom during their vows. Once or twice it has been a bit hairy. Climbing with 2 Nikon cameras, a 24-70mm and 70-200mm lens, especially when your only route is a ladder, can be rather scary. I am not sure whether climbing up or down is worse. Either way you need to find that extra bit of strength, or make it easy on yourself and take some step ladders.

A year long course with a Crazy Wedding Photographer

I have attended courses to further my career, and have just booked on a 1 year business, and wedding course with Chris Chambers Training. Chris is an award winning wedding photographer. He not only holds courses in the UK but international courses too. Chris is renowned as being one of those ‘Crazy Wedding Photographers’ many of his images have been published and written about in many online Blogs and publications. He WILL go that extra mile, as you can see from these images. Not only that, Chris knows his art, inside out. He has covered 100’s of weddings over the years, UK and internationally.

I am looking forward to working more closely with Chris. I’ve a large amount of wedding bookings this year, but will be 2nd shooting on some of Chris’s weddings in 2018. I hope to become a bit more crazy to get the shot, and might find the opprtunity to put this into practise whilst 2nd togging for Chris. I know that this time next year, I will have learnt so much from Chris, in all areas of business and wedding photography. Hopefully, I will have a couple of awards under my belt too. If you’re going to up your learning, then learn from one of the best in the business.

Thanks to Chris Chambers Photography for the use of his images!
